Information for School Coordinators
-
What will students learn in an afterschool sewing program?CIFA classes are student-led, and each program is tailored to suit the age, interests, and skills of the class. Lessons for younger kids are designed to allow students to practice their dexterity or design skills with younger kids practice their dexterity through hand sewing skills, using materials that are easier to work with. As students progress, they learn and master the sewing machine, and begin to take on more ambitious projects. We allow students' personal interests and values guide their work, while providing opportunities to explore a variety of materials and skills.
-
How old do kids have to be to learn how to sew?Kids can learn to sew at any age, with lessons adapted to be developmentally appropriate. Starting around 3rd-5th grade, kids are able to work independently with sewing tools and take on multi-sequential projects. For the most enriching program, we recommend grouping classes by similar grade levels. We currently teach students from K-12th grade!
-
Are CIFA programs interesting / suitable for boys? Our current programs have a balanced gender mix of students. Sewing projects are often multi-skill processes, and all students hone in on aspects that appeal to them the most. Class projects are designed to be non gender-specific, and there are many aspects of sewing that boys enjoy and excel at!

Do you offer school day programs?Yes, please contact us for more information.
